Trinidad was established in 1969, named after the historic Cuban city of Trinidad (La Santísima Trinidad or the Holy Trinity). Like Cohiba, the brand was initially created as a special gift for Fidel Castro, produced exclusively as a gift for foreign heads of state and diplomats, which added to the cigar's mystique.
It wasn't until 1998 that Trinidad cigars began to be sold on the international market. For many years, Trinidad cigars were produced at the El Laguito factory (which also produces Cohiba cigars), but due to high demand exceeding the factory's capacity, the brand has since moved its entire production to the Vuelta Abajo region in Pinar del Río.
The brand's logo consists of three T's (Tell The Truth), signifying its commitment to producing true, quality cigars. All sizes of Trinidad cigars are long-filler, handmade (Totalmente a Mano con Tripa Larga).
